Surface Preparation
Prior to the galvanising process, we carefully prepare metal surfaces to guarantee they are free of contaminants. This involves degreasing, acid cleaning and rinsing – methods designed to remove dirt, oils and oxides.
Acid Pickling
We immerse the metal components in a hydrochloric acid (HCL) bath – an efficient process which effectively cleanses steel.
Fluxing
The fluxing stage begins once we have carefully cleaned metal surfaces. Fluxing involves immersing components in a solution to prepare the surface for the hot dip zinc tank and forms a protective shield to inhibit oxidation further before galvanising begins.
Galvanising
At the centre of our process lies hot-dip galvanising: cleaned and fluxed metal components are immersed into a bath of pure zinc at approximately 450°C (840°F) to provide maximum corrosion protection for your steel.
Formation Of Zinc Coating
As the steel components are submerged in the zinc bath, a metallurgical reaction occurs between the steel and the molten zinc, resulting in zinc-iron alloy layers. This zinc coating thickness depends on both the steel type and your individual requirements for optimal results.
Quenching and Finishing
A special chemical is applied to prevent white rust staining for a short space of time whilst allowing the cooling of the steel to allow the finishing and packing process to proceed.
